Shot down on mission to strike the aircraft manufacturing plants at Lille, France, and crashed at Le Fayel, near Templeuve, 10 kilometers southeast of Lillie. Six crewmembers were Killed In Action, and three were taken as prisoners. One member evaded capture.
This is stated as the first loss of a B-24 Liberator from the 8th Air Force to hostile enemy action in the European theatre of war.
